Workshops

All Jan’s workshops give students an opportunity to play with a new technique and often to produce many samples. Working within a workshop environment produces inspirational work and all students are encouraged to develop and share their work.

Jan prides herself on being a professional teacher rather than an instructor and all students are encouraged to have a go and to push their own boundaries….Moving out of their comfort zones. Each technique may be  used in a project.

Two Day Workshops

Explore the potential of the Embellisher
An opportunity to play with the embellisher machine and to produce a portfolio of experimental samples.  Use the techniques to make a fabulous  book wrap.

Complex cloth
Using paper, fabrics, threads, dyes, paint, print and stitch..create a complex cloth which is an opportunity to experiment with texture and it  can be developed into a hanging.

Let sumptuous Silk Vessels Exist
Use new manipulative techniques to produce interesting braids and textures..trap them within silk fibres and water soluble fabric, use free machine embroidery, …and produce a beautiful sumptuous vessel.

Let sumptuous scarves Exist
Use colourful wacky threads and beads to create fabulous textural surfaces and then combine them with water soluble fabric, wool and silk fibres and machine stitching to make the most sumptuous scarves.

Transfer printing
Students often think that transfer paints and disperse dyes are boring!  Let Jan change your mind!  This is an opportunity to play with transfer paints and to explore their potential. Produce many samples and work towards making a bag or cushion cover design.

Fresco letters
Using tissue papers, bondaweb, nappy liners, felt, heat gun and soldering iron as well as machine embroidery… create a fresco style hanging.

Beads & Bobbin Lace.

An opportunity to try out many different ways of including beads in your bobbin Lace. The two day course also gives you the opportunity to design your own bobbin lace jewellery.

Play with image transfer

Have the time to sample different ways to transfer images to fabric. There are lots of products on the market and they can be confusing.. let Jan guide you through them and produce a series of samplers which will help you in the future.

Printing

An opportunity to play with printing techniques. Use commercial blocks, design and make your own, then try out new ways of using them on paper and fabric. Create your own unique backgrounds for your work. Let Jan inspire you. The second day will be spent stitching (by hand and / or by machine) into the chosen printed fabric.
