Wednesday – St Mark’s Church Hall, North End 9.30 – 12.30
Some weeks the class will be from 9.30 – 3.30. These dates will be given at the beginning of term.

The Course

This course introduces students to creative textile techniques in a structured way leading them to develop their own personal style and an opportunity to work at projects with confidence. It is also lots of FUN!
 This foundation level covers design, colouring fabrics and threads and then using a variety of techniques including hand and machine embroidery to embellish the surfaces. Lots of samples are produced as well as a final item which is designed and made to demonstrate the varied creative textile work.  Students will be expected to keep a file with all their experiments, notes and assignments. Students will be assessed by the tutor. The course is moderated internally and externally.

Students are consulted as to course content. This year our course work may include  -

• Creating a bag out of recycled fabrics, dyed, printed and quilted
• Dyeing and using silk rods & silk cocoons
• Creating silk fibre bowls and other 3D items.
• Transfer printing
• Creating distortion and manipulated textures by using zips, cords and strimmer nylon.
• Transferring images to fabric.
• Recycling clothes and changing them into other items.

Do I need previous experience?

No beginners and those with some experience are welcome. Just come with an open mind and be prepared to try all sorts of different techniques. Everyone inspires and encourages everyone else.

What do I need to buy or pay extra?

All materials. We operate a sharing scheme. Our cupboard buys many new items, which all students can use for a small contribution.  There is a sewing machine that students can use in class if they are unable to bring one in.  We also have an embellisher and other items of equipment including irons, heat guns, glue guns and a book binding machine.

Who is my tutor?
Jan is an experienced Primary & Secondary teacher who has been teaching Creative Textiles and Bobbin Lace making to adults for many years.
